Water Audits for Municipal Office Buildings

Client: San Francisco Public Utilities Commission

The Water Conservation Section of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) retained WRE to conduct water conservation assessments for a number of City-occupied buildings. The assessments included site surveys, evaluation of water conservation potential, and development of recommendations for how to reduce water use at reasonable costs.

Recommended water conservation measures included:

• Replacement of toilets and urinals with high-efficiency units
• Use of efficient “Waterbroom” for washdown
• Installation of tamper-proof 0.5 gallon per minute aerators on faucets
• Installation of conductivity controllers on the make-up water lines to cooling equipment and flow meters with conductivity controllers on the drain lines
• Investigation of unaccounted-for water use
